IIM-Sambalpur Starts Classes With 49 Students


The long wait is finally over with the Indian Institute of Management, Sambalpur (IIM-S), officially starting operations with an orientation class on Wednesday. The country's premier B-School will function from the Silicon Institute of Technology (SIT) campus at Sason here.

IIM-S has taken in 49 students, including nine women, for the current session. All of them attended the orientation program. This is the 19th IIM in the country.

The director of IIM-Indore, which is the mentor institute of IIM-S, R T Krishnan, expressed his appreciation for the support and cooperation of the state government and the MHRD's approval  for the institute. He added that they were satisfied with the infrastructure available on temporary campus.

Professors Pawan Singh and Bijaya Gupta,  two faculty members of IIM-Indore have arrived here to take classes at IIM-S, The director of IIM-Indore said.

The coordinator of IIM-S, Pawan Singh, said regular classes would commence from Thursday. He said it was a historic day and exuded confidence that IIM-S would flourish like other IIMs across the country. He Said that IIM-S has the second largest batch of students among the six new IIMs set up in the country.

A formal inaugural ceremony was also organised on the occasion and was graced by skill development and technical education minister Sanjaya Dasburam. The minister reiterated the commitment of the state government to that IIM-S would be another feather in the cap of higher education in the state.
